Do I get an Engineerinng Design Certificate
Yes, one supplied with every purchase
Do need to be a builder or tradesmen to install
No, you don’t! DECKBOSS® is engineered for easy DIY installation. If you can handle a spanner and a level, you can build with DECKBOSS®. The system is engineer-certified, so as long as you follow the provided instructions, your installation stays compliant - no Building License or Trade certificate required.
What tools do I need to install DECKBOSS®
Just the basics! All you need is a spanner and a level to install the DECKBOSS® frame. No power saws, nail guns, or complex tools required. The system is pre-engineered for a straightforward, no-fuss install - whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro.
What is supplied with the DECKBOSS® system?
Everything you need to build a compliant, high-performance DECKBOSS® frame is included in the kit:
- Precision-engineered frame components
- All bolts and fixings to connect frame members to the support legs
- Step-by-step installation guide for fast, no-fuss assembly
- Engineering system certification to support compliance and approvals
No cutting. No waste. Just a bolt it together, ready-to-go system designed to save time and deliver professional results.
Are these for Residential or Commercial use
The DECKBOSS® system is engineer-certified for residential and commercial applications. Whether you're building a backyard deck, modular cabin, or a multi-unit commercial development, DECKBOSS® delivers strength, compliance, and flexibility.
It’s certified to a 4.5kPa live load rating - that’s almost double the minimum requirement for residential decks. In practical terms, it means the frame is strong enough to support:
- Heavy outdoor furniture
- Crowded entertainment areas
- Commercial foot traffic (e.g. cafés, child care centres, or retail boardwalks)
Built to exceed Australian Standards, DECKBOSS® suits everything from DIY installs to high-end commercial building applications, and is backed by a 20-year structural warranty*.
What can DECKBOSS® be used for?
DECKBOSS® is a high-strength, engineer-certified framing system designed for a wide range of residential and commercial applications. Its modular, precision-engineered design makes it incredibly versatile, durable, and easy to install.
Typical uses include:
- Decks, from backyard entertaining areas to rooftop terraces
- Raised walkways and platforms, ideal for sloped or uneven ground
- Tiny homes and modular buildings
- Carports and covered outdoor areas strong enough to support roofing
systems - Water tank and spa bases - with exceptional point load performance
- Private and Council access ramps and stairs, safe, compliant, and easy to configure
- Toilets Amenities blocks and cabins, stable, compliant subfloors for
community or commercial use - Retreats, glamping pods, kiosks, garden offices, and more
Do I need to dig holes to install DECKBOSS®?
Not necessarily. Whether or not you need to dig holes depends on the ground conditions and the type of foundation you're building on.
Here’s a general guide:
On a concrete slab or paved surface:
No digging required. You can place the DECKBOSS® support legs directly onto the surface using heavy-duty concrete pads or adjustable footings. This is one of the fastest and cleanest install options.
On compacted ground, gravel, or grass:
In most cases, a concrete pad or paver under each support leg will provide sufficient bearing. No deep excavation is needed unless specified by your site engineer.
On soft, sloping, or reactive soil:
You may need to embed piers, footings, or screw piles to ensure long-term stability, especially for taller or heavily loaded decks. These situations may require light excavation or consultation with a builder or engineer.
The DECKBOSS® system is designed for flexibility - from full slab installs to uneven ground. As long as the support legs are placed on a stable, load-bearing surface, you’ll maintain both structural integrity and engineering compliance.
What materials can I use on the DECKBOSS® frame?
DECKBOSS® is designed to be material-flexible, so you can choose the deck finish that best suits your style, budget, or project requirements — without compromising structural certification.
- Composite decking (e.g. ModWood, Trex, NewTechWood)
- Hardwood decking (e.g. spotted gum, merbau, blackbutt)
- Treated pine or softwood decking
- Eco or recycled timber products
- Fibre cement or weatherproof cladding systems
(for modular or architectural finishes) - Aluminium decking systems
- Deck tiles, pavers or stone panels (if weight is within engineering load limits)
Because DECKBOSS® is engineer-certified as a subframe, your chosen decking material won’t affect compliance — just follow standard installation practices for your selected product.
Is DECKBOSS® patented?
Yes. DECKBOSS® is protected under a World-Wide Innovation Patent, recognising its unique design, engineering simplicity, and construction efficiency.
This patent covers the system’s modular frame structure, tool-free assembly approach (just a spanner and level), and its innovative ability to deliver engineer-certified results without traditional construction methods. The innovation patent ensures that the DECKBOSS® system remains exclusive, giving you a product that’s not only effective but unmatched in the global market.
One of the key patented features is the innovative delivery method:
Each DECKBOSS® kit arrives on a liftable, craneable pallet, neatly packed with everything you need to get started - including support legs, bolts, and precision-cut deck frames. This smart packaging makes transport to site simple, safe, and efficient, whether you're building in a backyard, on a rooftop, or at a remote commercial location.
We’ve designed DECKBOSS® to redefine the way decks and raised platforms are built - and this patent is a key part of safeguarding that vision.
What warranty does DECKBOSS® come with?
Every DECKBOSS® frame is backed by a solid structural warranty designed for Australian conditions:
20-year warranty applies to installations located more than 5 kilometres from coastal or saltwater environments
15-year warranty applies to installations within 5 kilometres of the ocean, where higher salt exposure may increase corrosion risk
Importantly, the DECKBOSS® warranty does not differentiate between DIY installations and professional builder installations. As long as the system is installed in accordance with our official guidelines and maintained appropriately, your coverage remains valid — whether you build it yourself or have it installed by a tradie.
The system is made from durable, corrosion-resistant materials and has been engineer-certified for long-term performance. Whether you're in the suburbs, out bush, or near the beach, DECKBOSS® is built to last — and we stand behind it.
What material is DeckBoss made from
The DECKBOSS® frame system is built for strength, durability, and performance using high-quality materials:
50x50 SHS (Square Hollow Section) Galvanised Steel - this forms the core frame structure, offering outstanding strength, rigidity, and resistance to corrosion. The galvanising provides long-term protection against rust, making it ideal for outdoor, coastal, or high-moisture environments.
High-tensile structural bolts and fixings - used throughout the system to ensure a secure, load-bearing connection between frame components and support legs. These bolts are engineered to withstand heavy use, vibration, and movement over time without loosening or fatigue.
The entire system is engineer-certified to Australian Standards and designed to outperform traditional timber or lightweight steel frames in both residential and commercial applications.
DECKBOSS® materials are chosen not just for strength, but for ease of handling, minimal maintenance, and longevity in harsh Australian conditions.
How much does the DECKBOSS® frame weigh?
Each DECKBOSS® frame module measures 1125mm x 1125mm and weighs approximately 18kg. The frame is constructed from 50x50mm Galvanised SHS (Square Hollow Section) steel, offering exceptional strength and corrosion resistance without being overly heavy.
Thanks to its compact, modular design, each frame is:
Easily handled by one person
Simple to lift, move, and position on-site
Efficiently packed for transport - multiple frames are stacked on craneable, liftable pallets
This makes DECKBOSS® ideal for both DIY installations and commercial-scale projects, where fast, low-labour setup is essential.
If you need a complete kit weight for freight or logistics, we’ll provide accurate totals based on your order size.
How is DECKBOSS® packaged?
DECKBOSS® is delivered in a compact, craneable pallet format designed for easy handling, transport, and site access.
Each order is neatly packed onto a standard pallet, with:
- Modular frame sections stacked flat
- Support legs and bolts boxed supplied with in the DECKBOSS® pallet
- Installation guide and engineering documents included
- Optional protective wrapping or strapping for longer-distance delivery or, crane lifting
The entire pallet is designed to fit onto any ute, trailer, or small truck that can accommodate a standard pallet (typically 1200mm x 1200mm or similar footprint). This makes DECKBOSS® perfect for deliveries to urban, regional, or remote sites with limited access.
The system is forklift and crane friendly, ensuring smooth unload and placement, reghardless if your project is a DIY or Copmmercial.
